Common guidelines for brown bear management on a population level are now ready. We consider them an important achievement, as for the first time they provide a frame for population level management of Alpine and Northern Dinaric bears. Traditionally, bears are managed on a national or even regional levels, which hinders adequate long-term management of the population. Therefore, the purpose of this document is to define key actions to be carried out in the Northern Dinaric and Alpine region.

We are glad that the final Guidelines cover much more than only project area: they include the whole Alpine area, as well. Namely, WISO platform, which operates as a working group of the Alpine Convention, was additional participating body for the preparation of Common guidelines. Bosnia and Herzegovina cooperated, too.
