Because of the constant need of raising awareness about proper and consistent use of prevention measures, namely bear-proof garbage- and compost bins, workshops for local inhabitants were organized in February and March. They took place on all five project »hot-spots«: Sodražica, Rakitna, Loška dolina, Kostel and Zapotok, settlement in Municipality of Ig. During the workshops, crucial importance of proper installation and maintenance of the bear-proof compost bins and the issue of illegal waste disposal were highlighted. The presentation was followed by guided discussion about importance of such measures in the areas with bear presence and vision of joint work for the future. Project’s local experts shared their own field experience with monitoring the conditions and use of implemented measures. They also organized these events and were responsible for the promotion. At the workshop in Loška dolina, the Nature & Wildlife project representatives also participated.

Local people proposals will be considered in our plans for future work, so as to continue a common approach in efforts for preventing bears wandering close to human settlements.
