On the occasion of this year’s “Week of Forests”, organized by Slovenia Forest Service, the opening of the forest educational trail Mašun and a permanent exhibition on large carnivores took place in Mašun (Snežnik area, south Slovenia). Both were established in the frame of the Interreg project Carnivora Dinarica. Under the motto “Large carnivores co-create the best forests. Respect them!” both the exhibition and the forest trail encourage visitors to learn new perspectives about the role of bears, wolves and lynx in ecosystem. They also offer information related to the management of large carnivores in Slovenia and Croatia.

The authors of the exhibition and forest educational trail at the Slovenian Forest Service included lots of content about the bear, which was acquired within the LIFE DINALPBEAR project: for instance habitat model, current brown bear distribution, monitoring techniques, conflict prevention methods, measures for increasing tolerance towards coexistence and many more.

The forest learning trail is open every day, no appointment needed, while a visit to the forest house is only possible by prior appointment at the Slovenian Forest Service, Regional Unit Postojna. We invite you to enjoy the beauty and forest tranquility of Mašun, while learning about large carnivores and their ecosystem.
