On Friday, 17th June 2016 there was an Open Day of Slovenian Beekeeping also at the tourist farm Pri Lazarju.
The beekeeper, Mr. Franc Žerjal manages his own apiary at the tourist farm Pri Lazarju. This is a good example of cooperation and symbiosis between a farmer and a beekeeper. In the future they want to spread their joint activities also on the field of apitourism.
Mr. Žerjal also implents bear-friendly practices, which is keeping his beehives within the electric fence, hence helping to reduce conflicts with bears. His honey is therefore awarded with label “bear friendly”.
The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, Mr. Dejan Židan, visited the event and was greeted by the owner of the Turist farm – Mr. Bizjan, the beekeeper – Mr. Žerjal, by the vice president of Slovenian Beekeeping Society – Mr. Marko Alauf and by the president of beekeeping society Ljubljana-Polje – Mr. Tomaž Svete together with other beekeepers from the association.
Minister Židan was following the presentation of beekeeping and other tourist facilities and activities at the farm Pri Lazarju with great interest. We informed him also about the project LIFE DINALP BEAR, our ecotouristic actions that are being developed within the project, and with the supportive promotional activities of the project in the framework of “bear friendly” labeling. The Minister stressed out the importance of the quality work and also the need for presenting this to the public.
