On the »hot-spots«, areas, where bears wander near the human settlements most often, we started to locally address the problems regarding anthropogenic food in the year 2017, with the distribution and implementation of prevention measures, namely bear-proof garbage containers and bear-proof compost bins.

Even though the measures prevent access to anthropogenic food by bears effectively, consistent and correct use of the bear-proof containers is of crucial importance. To stay in constant contact with local people, local experts were hired on each »hot-spot« in November 2018: Kostel, Loška dolina, Sodražica / Ribnica, Ig and Rakitna. Their main roles are monthly monitoring of the condition and use of implemented measures, reporting on the situation to the coordinating partner Slovenia Forest Service and awareness raising among local people.
