We are proud to announce the release of a new publication – the leaflet entitled Keep bears wild and away from human foods.

Bears are opportunistic omnivores that quickly discover accessible food sources. Easily accessible anthropogenic food sources near settlements represent the main cause for human-bear conflicts and attract bears closer to people and their houses. When such food sources are regularly obtained near human settlements, bears may eventually lose their fear of people and can equate human presence with food, which can lead to unwanted and sometimes even dangerous situations. Therefore, it is essential to prevent bears from accessing garbage, compost bins, orchards, beehives, livestock, silage bales and other food sources found in human settlements.

The main leaflet’s message is: Let’s keep bears wild and away from human food sources!

This leaflet was prepared in collaboration with teachers and students from the Sodražica primary school in Slovenia, who were involved in workshops, focused on keeping bears out of human-based food sources. We would like to thank them for their help and enthusiasm in preparing contents for this leaflet.

Leaflet was prepared in 5 languages: English, German, Croatian, Italian and Slovenian.
