On Friday, 19th October 2018, a seminar on impacts on game species and coexistence with large carnivores was held in Sedico – Belluno. Eighty hunters participated in this training program promoted by the Italian Federation of Hunters coordinated by Dr. Michele Bottazzo, Belluno Section president Alberto Colleselli, also president of the Italian Lynx Project. They introduced and coordinated the work during which two speakers, Prof. Piergiuseppe Meneguz and wildlife researcher Paolo Molinari, both of the Department of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Turin, presented the national and European knowledge and experiences and illustrated possible strategies for coexistence. Based on the LIFE DINALP BEAR project, as well as other ongoing LIFE projects on carnivores, the important role of hunters in monitoring and as active partners in the management process was underlined. Numerous positive reactions demonstrate the importance of such seminars for gaining knowledge and raising awareness.
