In February, project members from Slovenia Forest Service attended the international workshop entitled Prevention and compensation of damages from large carnivores, organized by the secretariat of the Alpine Convention. The main topic of the workshop were the prevention techniques and approaches to prevent damages on human property caused by large carnivores in the Alpine areas of Europe. Project members presented our approaches to damage prevention. High electric fences and livestock guarding dogs are a very effective tool against large carnivore depredation, while beehives can be effectively protected using multi-wire electric fences or electric nettings. Unlike other alpine countries, in Slovenia we put a lot of effort in controlling the implemented measures in the field, which strongly contributes to their effectiveness.

The last day of the meeting was dedicated to the WISO platform session, in which representatives of alpine countries presented the situation and news regarding large carnivores management.
