Last Saturday, one of the biggest scout events in Slovenia (»Taborniški feštival«) took place, honoring International Earth Day and Scout Day at Tivoli city park, Ljubljana. Different sports, arts and educational workshops were prepared for scouts from all across Slovenia by more than 40 organizations.

Since scouts spend a lot of time outdoors and often camp in areas where bears are present, they are recognized as one of the LIFE DINALP BEAR project target groups. We took the opportunity to educate them about how to recognize signs of bear presence, how to behave in order to avoid encounters, how to properly dispose organic waste in bear areas and how to react in case of close encounter. Scout families representatives casted bear footprint models which will be used for further education. About 300 Slovenian and foreign scouts attended the workshop while more than 1500 visitors were reported to visit the event as a whole.
