LIFE DINALP BEAR project team gladly responded to an invitation of scouts from Celje, Slovenia, to prepare a workshop on brown bear and co-existence between human and bear. Young scouts participated actively and enjoyed discussing biology and ecology of brown bear, their experience from walking in the woods, and handled enthusiastically our practical didactic material. We presented them basic rules of appropriate behaviour in the natural environment and proper reactions, if we meet a bear. Challenges of human-bear coexistence were discussed and we listed efficient solutions to human-bear conflicts. We rounded up with a thought that we can avoid those conflicts by adopting appropriate behaviour, thus increasing public acceptance of brown bear.
